General Service Association (GSA) of

Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous

Quarterly Financial Appeal

Our spiritual way of life is safe for future generations if, as a society, we resist the temptation to receive money from the

outside world. But this leaves us with a responsibilityone that every member ought to understand. We cannot skimp

when the treasurer of our group passes the hat. Our groups, our areas, and AA as a whole will not function unless our

services are sufficient and their bills are paid.”

Bill W, 1957, The Language of the Heart, p 221

Financially supporting the efforts of Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous ensures that our 5th

Tradition can flourish at every level, allowing ABA to carry the message of recovery to those still

suffering from insane eating practices. From our local Group‟s treasury to the GSA‟s balance sheet at

the worldwide level, we are all responsible to ensure that where there is a suffering member,

Anorexics and Bulimics Anonymous can be the hands of a loving Higher Power reaching out to them.

Although contributions remain strictly voluntary, the responsibility for keeping the General Service

Association of ABA afloat rests squarely with its “bosses”— the individual Groups. As ABA‟s trusted

servant, the GSA is driven by the needs voiced by the Groups at large through their elected

representatives.

If the GSA is to continue its work serving ABA, improvement in its financial situation must be made.

Since 2009, the revenue coming in through literature sales and Group donations is not covering the

GSA‟s expenses, despite the Board‟s successful efforts to keep these expenses at a minimum. If this

situation remains unchecked, the very survival of the GSA will be in jeopardy. If the GSA were no

longer able to meet ABA‟s world service needs, the “inverted pyramid” service structure of ABA would

collapse, spelling the demise of the entire unified ABA Fellowship itself.

As ABA grows and matures, we must encourage and support her. Small but regular financial

contributions from all Groups will ensure ABA‟s future and, therefore, our personal recovery. We

appeal to all Groups to establish a practice of quarterly financial contributions, and thank you in

advance for doing so. Also, the GSA is now asking each individual ABA member to donate $30 per

year to correct the current deficit situation.

Cheques or money orders may be sent in CAD, USD, Euros, AUD, NZD, or GBP, made payable to
