A great Tool!
Meetings are considered the 4th tool of recovery– Phone Meetings fall into that category .
Here is a my little explanation. I hope it is helpful.
There are actually 8 Tools of Recovery listed in the ABA basic text.

Meetings; the 4th tool listed as the preamble states is extremely important.
4. Meetings: both A.B.A. and other Twelve Step meetings are critically
important in maintaining sobriety. Many of us in early recovery attend
ninety meetings in ninety days.
Identification is of crucial importance, and is one of the keys to the recovery process. By attending a meeting and discovering that we share the same problem as others in the halls, have felt the same feeling others describe & think the same thoughts. We are NOT alone.
BUT for those of us where there are NO established ABA Mtg or few of them…. Phone Meetings bridge the gap.. Phone Meetings allow people from far away places, out lying areas to “be” and “feel” a part of. To be a part of a community. A Phone Mtg Community of other Anorexics & Bulimics connecting and sharing their experience strength and hope with each other. Phone Mtgs are simply another vehicle for H.P.’s grace to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves; keep us sober. Phone Mtgs are lifelines for some until they are able to start up a community in their own area. All in H.P.’s time. In the meantime we are fed spiritually, and emotionally with the help of other local 12-Step Fellowships and the Phone Mtg Fellowship as well. The Monday Night ABA Phone Meeting connects one anorexic/ bulimic with another anorexic/ bulimic, which is on mark of our primary purpose to help those who still suffer.

BACK TO WHAT IS A PHONE MEETING;
Telephone meetings are also known as Phone Bridge Mtgs to many in other fellowships who also utilize them.
The phone number connects you to what is called a telephone conference bridge (“Bridge” for short).
Each “virtual meeting” can be programmed to hold anywhere from 2 to 100 participants.
Participants are able to call from all over the world and share in that virtual space of the bridge.
NOTE: You will incur long distance telephone charges depending on your long distance telephone carrier when you dial into the phone meeting.The Monday Night’s Mtg. follows the ABA suggested Format found in the basic text pages 142-148.
Some adaptations to the original format have been made… creating a “Suggestive Format Guideline” to
help run the phone mtg. more smoothly.
